WACO, Texas – RRAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week have been announced for March 1-17 with this week's honorees including Jalen Bell (men's track – Our Lady of the Lake), Seth Alexander (men's field - Xavier), Jaelyn Mitchell (women's track – Xavier), and A'Blesin Wilson (women's field – Xavier). This is the second set of track & field weekly awards for the 2024 RRAC outdoor season.
Bell finished in the top three in three events at the University of Texas-San Antonio Invitational and qualified for the NAIA nationals in each. The junior from Killeen, Texas, was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash at 10.55. Bell also finished third in the 200 meters and was second as part of the Saints' 4x100-meter relay team.
Alexander turned in two top-three finishes at the Louisiana Classics, a meet that included eight NCAA Division I schools. The senior from Arnaudville, La., produced an NAIA A-qualifying mark of 48 feet, 4 ¾ inches in the triple jump, and he posted a personal best of 23 feet, 4 inches in the long jump. Alexander was the 2023 NAIA outdoor national champion and the 2024 NAIA indoor national champion in the men's triple jump.
Mitchell recorded NAIA A-qualifying marks in the 200 meters and 400 relay at the Louisiana Classics. The freshman from New Orleans placed ninth in the 200 and 11th in the 400. As part of the Gold Nuggets' 4x100 relay team, Mitchell and company finished sixth. She is currently ranked fourth in the NAIA in the 200 sprint.
Wilson was Xavier's top performer in the long jump, triple jump and the javelin at the Louisiana Classics. The junior from Dallas reached 4.91 meters in the long jump and 10.46 in the triple jump to finish 10th. Wilson also threw to 27.24 meters in the javelin.
