WACO, Texas – RRAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week have been announced for March 18-24 with this week's honorees including Cerrone Thompson (men's track – Our Lady of the Lake), Shakeel Zahid (men's field - OLLU), Alexandria Segura (women's track – Xavier), and Jazmyne White (women's field – Huston-Tillotson). This is the third set of track & field weekly awards for the 2024 RRAC outdoor season.
Thompson won the 400-meter dash at the Charles Austin Classic in San Marcos, Texas, on Saturday. The sophomore from Anchorage, Alaska, sprinted to a time of 47.31 in a field of 19 mostly NCAA Division I competitors. Thompson's time qualified as an NAIA "A" standard and established a new OLLU record.
Zahid placed fourth in the high jump against a tough field at the Charles Austin Classic. The junior from Katy, Texas, reached a height of 1.81 meters in the event hosted by Texas State University. OLLU's men's team was ranked first in the South Central region in the most recent polls.
Segura finished sixth in the women's 400-meter dash at the Charles Austin Classic. The junior from San Antonio registered a time fof 58.91 in a field of 17 sprinters. OLLU's women's team is also ranked first in the NAIA South Central region.
White posted NAIA A-level standards in both the triple jump and the long jump at the Prairie View A&M University (Texas) Relays. The freshman from Jacksonville, Texas, earned a runner-up result in the triple jump at 11.96 meters and she placed fifth in the long jump at 5.30 meters. White was the only non-NCAA Division I competitor in the triple jump.
